I became a Brownie leader this year. As my older daughter moved up to Juniors and my younger daughter bridged to Brownies, I decided it was time to get a bit more involved. The decision wasn't entirely mine. The former leaders were also moving on, and someone needed to commit to the Brownies. Sherri, who is another Brownie mom, volunteered and, since I felt it was unfair for her to carry the burden alone, I stepped up as well. I'm not sorry that I did. So far it has been a lot of fun. I've been able to observe Anna playing with her friends and trying new things. I've been able to strengthen my friendship with Sherri. I've also been able to acquire some new skills, as well as further develop some others.
We have a large group of Brownies--one of the largest in several years. There are 20 girls in our troop and they hardly ever miss a meeting. I guess that means we are doing something right. We certainly have kept them busy this semester. Tonight we held a Court of Awards, at which the girls received the Try-It badges they have earned so far. Most of the girls received 7 of these badges. It was a nice little ceremony and I think the girls were proud to receive these tokens of their efforts.
We have been fortunate to have some other parents take a role in helping with the troop. Two other moms have regularly pitched in. Other moms have helped on a less regular basis, but their efforts are no less appreciated. I know we couldn't do it without them.
So, anyway, being a Brownie leader is fun, exhausting, and very rewarding. I guess I could say that I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Now, pass me a thin mint cookie and let me relax!
