Celebrate

I took my own advice and put out my flag today. I also wore my red, patriotic T-shirt, with a flag emblem on it.

We nearly always celebrate the 4th with some friends of ours. They live in Kansas City, but have family in the area. Every year they throw a big bash, with a cookout and all the fixin's, a pool party, volleyball, and capped off by fireworks in the front yard. It is pretty much the same crowd every year, and is always a good time to catch up with our friends.

The girls always have a great time. What could be more fun than eating, swimming, and fireworks?! Maybe it isn't the most "patriotic" way to celebrate Independence Day, but, then again, maybe it is. After all, we can assemble with our friends, celebrate, and have no worries about whether the police will come to break up the party. We can enjoy the freedoms that this country offers. And tomorrow, I can remind my girls just how lucky we are to live in this great country, where eating, swimming, and fireworks are not only allowed, but are part of the American experience.
