My girls

I like this picture. It was taken at our church on Easter Sunday, 2005. I like it because it gives a little insight to their personalities. Emily, at age 11, is entering that awkward stage where she is starting to feel self-conscious at times. She has braces so almost every current picture of her has her lips firmly and deliberately closed so as not to show any of that dreaded silver. I personally think the braces are cute (they ought to be, considering how much they cost!). Anna is 8 and still has that care-free attitude. Everything is fun. She also loves to look good! Of the two of them, she is my girly-girl. Loves all the frills, jewelry, nail polish, lip gloss. Emily, on the other hand, is definitely not a girly-girl, nor is she a tomboy. She falls somewhere in the middle. Always ready for the next adventure, she has no time to mess with nail polish or make-up (not that she would be wearing make-up at her age anyway). Still, when she is dressed up, she tries to look her best. She got her ears pierced for her birthday and she loves getting new earrings and matching them to her outfit.

Anyway, they are a couple of remarkable girls. As different as they are in some ways, in other ways they are quite similar. They both have very giving and caring hearts. They both are quick to pray about their concerns and joys. They both have a desire to serve God. Even as young as they are, they seem to be on the right track. It truly is a joy and a privilege to be their mother.

Nice picture! Well done, girls!

Say, Emily, could you do something about that hurricane, you know, the one with *your* name on it? I mean, really, is all that really necessary?
